Florida Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Student

While it’s good for teachers and students to get along with each other, they can get a little too close and personal at times. After all, they spend a lot of time together at school and this can develop into something more than a teacher-student relationship. Sometimes these relationships turn romantic and even sexual.

This was the case for a Florida teacher and her student. A 31-year-old drama teacher was arrested on October 4 for multiple sex crimes against a minor.

The sexual activity between the teacher and her student began in August. The 14-year-old boy was a student at Hialeah Middle School, where the woman taught drama to 7th and 8th graders. The sexual abuse started after the teacher sent the boy a long text message expressing how she felt about him.

The two met at Starbucks for breakfast and the teacher would then sexually abuse the boy in  her Jeep. She would also pick up the boy from his home and from basketball practice and the two would engage in sexual activity. The teacher and the boy would also exchange texts about how much they enjoyed having sex with each other.

Police got involved after the victim’s sister became suspicious of how the boy was always on his phone and would make sure nobody saw what was on it. The sister eventually got a hold of the phone and saw sexually explicit photos and texts between her brother and the teacher.

The sister told their father, who searched the phone and also saw the explicit photos and texts. The teacher had encouraged the boy to send sexually explicit photos of himself and she would respond with comments such as “perfect” and “yum.”

The woman had taught in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools District for four years and had not faced disciplinary action prior to this incident. The school district is disappointed by the teacher’s actions, as all employees receive training on unethical behavior. The district will be terminating her employment and preventing her from seeking future work with the district. The teacher’s arraignment is scheduled for November 3. That is when she expects to face formal charges.

She currently faces several charges, including molestation, lewd and lascivious battery, and engaging in a sexual act with a child. She attended a court hearing the next day and she was ordered to stay away from the victim. In addition, she is prohibited from being around minors without supervision.
