Disney Cruise Employee Arrested for Child Porn Possession
A Florida man who formerly worked as a Disney Cruise employee was recently arrested for child porn possession. The 49-year-old man was charged with one count of child porn possession and booked into the Broward County Jail.
A Homeland Security Investigations Task Force was following up on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children when they arrested the man. The man had in his possession an SD card that contained an eight-minute video of two children having sex. The girl in the video was between the ages of 12 and 14, while the boy was a little younger, possibly 8 to 10 years old.
The man, who is originally from the Philippines, is being held on a $20,000 bond. Police have placed a hold on his immigration. Disney Cruise Line terminated the man from his position, stating that the man is “no longer with the company.” They are cooperating with law enforcement.
Consequences of Child Porn Crimes
Child porn crimes are taken very seriously in Florida. A person who is in possession of images or videos depicting child porn can face felony charges, which includes punishment such as jail time and fines.
Under Florida law, it is illegal for any person to knowingly possess or intentionally view a photo, image, video, exhibition, show, or other presentation that they know includes any sexual conduct by a child. A child is defined as a minor under the age of 18. This is a third-degree felony, punishable by five years in prison and $5,000 in fines.
Promoting or distributing child porn is a second-degree felony, as is using a child in a sexual performance. A second-degree felony is punishable by 15 years in prison as well as $10,000 in fines.
It is also possible for child porn crimes to be tried at the federal level, especially if the distribution took place over state lines. This can lead to enhanced penalties. In addition, convictions for offenses related to child pornography require registration as a sex offender. This can affect a person’s employment and housing opportunities. It also comes with a social stigma, which means those convicted of child porn crimes may be ostracized by the community and even their own friends and family.
