Maintenance Worker Charged With Child Porn Possession

People download child porn and view it for various reasons. Some people are attracted to young children, while others become intoxicated and do crazy things. This is the excuse that a Florida man gave for possessing child porn.

A maintenance employee for the Martin County School District has been arrested for child pornography possession. His wife found it on his phone and alerted police. The 51-year-old man is now facing three counts of child pornography. The man was arrested in early February and is currently behind bars at  Martin County Jail in lieu of a $1.5 million bond.

When the man was taken into police custody, he explained to deputies that he would use alcohol and cocaine and that would allegedly cause him to start downloading all kinds of crazy things, including child porn images. The images featured minor girls having sex with adult men.

The investigation and subsequent arrest happened rather quickly. Deputies from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on January 31, after the man’s wife informed them that she found what appeared to be child porn on her husband’s phone.

The man’s wife claims that on January 27, she and her husband were in bed. She noticed her husband was watching pornography and she thought she saw the word “underage.”

She took her husband’s phone but could not unlock it. She asked him why he was looking at pornography and he claimed it was an accident. The two had an argument and the man later left the home. He returned the next day and slept through the day and part of the next day. The wife learned the husband took $500 and bought cocaine.

He told his wife he needed help, so they checked him into a rehabilitation center on January 30, to receive treatment for an alcohol and drug problem. However, before he entered rehab, his wife hid his phone and found a blue folder that contained videos of minors. One video showed a girl as young as 3 years old performing sex acts.

She contacted sheriff’s deputies and gave them permission to examine the phone. An investigator determined that the man was not producing or participating in sexual acts.

A search of the man’s online history showed that he visited websites associated with child porn on numerous occasions. He admitted to viewing the videos and said he would search online for “young teen nudists.” The man also admitted to investigators that after consuming cocaine and beers, he would black out and search for child porn.

The man was hired by the Martin County School District in 2011 as a maintenance employee. He has since been terminated from his position and will no longer be allowed to enter any school district property.
