State Employee Arrested for Child Porn

Possession of child pornography is a common crime in Florida. But just because it’s a popular crime doesn’t make it right. People from all walks of life engage in this crime — even state employees.

A Florida man was recently arrested for child porn charges. The man was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and charged with four counts of child porn possession. He appeared in court the next day. The man previously worked for the U.S. Department of State as a foreign service officer.

In August, investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip led them to the man, who was allegedly using Snapchat to communicate with minors. He was also in possession of child sexual abuse material. The images investigators found were of minors primarily between the ages of 4 and 13 years old.

The man was given a $10,000 bond on each count and ordered not to have any contact with minors. He was also ordered to not use the internet. The man returns to court on December 9.

Why Do People View Child Porn?

It’s disgusting to most people to watch children having sex. However, some people enjoy it. They know it is forbidden, but they are attracted to it anyway. Here are some reasons why:

  • Many people who view child porn may have experienced child abuse in their past. Those who have not been abused may have a hard time with adult relationships. Viewing pornographic images of children gives them a sense of control.
  • Sexual gratification. For some people, child pornography is more appealing. They may think of themselves as young and child-like. Or maybe it’s because children are less intimidating.
  • Emotional escape. Many of those who view child porn are looking for an escape from reality. Many people feel lonely and anxious. Some feel sexually frustrated. Viewing child porn gives them a way to escape and feel better about themselves.

However, simply viewing child porn is still a crime. Even if you did not take the photos or videos, you could still face serious criminal charges. Any visual depiction that shows minors engaging in sexual activity or posing provocatively is considered child porn. Whether you view a photo, video, or drawing, you could be arrested at the state and/or federal levels.
